World Book Day – 7th March 2019
World Book Day was celebrated in style at Dormer! The children’s costumes were amazing this year and really created a wonderful ‘buzz’ at the beginning of the school day. Thank you to all of our lovely Dormer parents for their support!
The day got off to a great start as the children gathered in the hall to reveal their costumes and chosen book characters in front of a panel of judges. An overall winner was picked for each class but the judges found this incredibly difficult, and debated long and hard!
Next the children set off with their World Book Day tokens to our local bookshop, ‘Books Yule Love’, drawing admiring glances from lots of people on the way!
The theme for the day was ‘Share a Story Today’, providing the children with the opportunity to share their favourite books with their friends. The staff read their own much-loved stories with KS1 and Years 3 and 4 joined the Fledglings and Skylarks on cosy bean bags and mats in the school hall to read aloud to them.
Dormer also entered a ‘Design a Book Token’ competition and created a very special Elmer collage to mark 30 years since David McKee’s first Elmer book was published.
