Martin Luther King Jr. Day – 21st January 2019

In assembly on Monday 21st January, we commemorated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a story entitled ‘Martin’s Big Words’; a celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Year 6 have been studying the rhetoric of this extraordinary civil rights campaigner and they have learnt a great deal about resilience in the face of oppression.

Inspired by his moving ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, Year 6 recited their ‘Dreams for a Better World in 2019’, an example of which you can read below:-

My Dream is…

That no one will be treated unfairly.
No one will be abused for their religion, or appearance.
It is that everyone will be treated equally.

My dream is…
That the lonely will find friends,
and the homeless will find sanctuary.
It is that no one will be alone in the world.

My dream is…
That all animals under threat,
will survive pollution.
It is that something will be done about all
these things.

These are my dreams.
