Dormer and Remembrance Day – November 2018
With Remembrance as their theme for November in history, English, art and PSCHE, Year 6 have been tracking the path to war in 1914 and thinking about the call to arms.
With the help of the WW1 War Poets, they came to understand the Nation’s debt to those who served in the war to end all wars. In art lessons they created their own images of the haunting landscapes captured by the War Artists.
They worked hard to research sources which describe the conditions in the trenches and captured this beautifully by writing their own letters, diary entries and poems for our Remembrance Assembly.
They have created an impressive body of work on this important topic and they truly understand the cost of war to those who served, and also to their families back home. It has given the centenary year real meaning to a new generation.
“It has been a pleasure to share this emotive topic with my class and an honour to march with them at the Remembrance Parade. The children paid their respects with dignity and grace and were proud to lay the school wreath at the war memorial on Sunday.”
